Google Maps Shows Trump Tower As ‘Dump Tower’



Trump Tower renamed as ‘Dump Tower’ on Google Maps

Looks like the heat surrounding the results of U.S. Presidential Election is refusing to die down in spite of it being declared couple of weeks ago!
Apparently, Trump Tower in New York City was briefly renamed to “Dump Tower” on Google Maps by some hackers. However, the original name was restored on the mapping service by early Sunday morning. The tower serves as President-elect Donald Trump’s home in Manhattan. Its central location on Fifth Avenue has posed security challenges for the Secret Service and local law enforcement.
Also, the Trump International Hotel and Tower in Columbus Circle had been renamed to “Dump International Hotel and Tower” on Saturday, reports the CNN. By Sunday morning, that reference also had been removed.
Users of the mapping service began noticing the new name for the Fifth Avenue building on Saturday and some took to social media to report it. While it is unclear when the change occurred, but people on Twitter began tweeting about the new “brand identity” around 2 p.m.
The Republican president-elect Trump has not yet taken to social media to address the name change. Trump has been using Trump Tower as his transition headquarters.
“Some inappropriate names were surfacing in Google Maps that should not be, and we apologize for any offense this may have caused. Our teams immediately took action and have fixed the issue,” Google’s spokesperson said.
Google’s Map Maker, which allows anyone to make changes to the geography of the map, is available in more than 45 countries including India. Google allows user to edit roads and add landmarks on Google Maps, but ideally, such changes are reviewed and approved by moderators. However, occasional inaccuracies can arise, such as this instance.
